The Menagerie

We have a badling of 5 ducks in the backyard. They have become an essential element in my backyard garden, and have been especially effective at controlling the slug problem we once had.  We rotate them through the garden, allowing them access to areas before planting, and then again later (when practical) once plants become established. They are the most efficient organic pest management strategy I’ve come across.

We are also urban beekeepers. Our apiary is located at the foot of the garden. We installed our first hives 3 years ago, and noticed an immediate difference in the productivity of our garden. Our honey harvest varies from year to year, but we’ve been fortunate to always harvest at least a gallon each season.
